The Lesson Planning Class brings back memories of when I first started teaching. We have to remember that students have different learning styles and we as instructors have to do what it takes to reach as many of the learning styles in each lesson as possible.

Interests

Activity

Adult learners are different from young-just out of high school students. Some adult learners are intimitaded and I think it is the instructor's responsibility to help the adult learner to feel comfortable in class and to get them involved so that the anxiety and intimitation will subside.

Both the instructors and the students have a stake for ADL to be successful. The instructor has to be there to answer questions, guide the students if they get off track, and to motivate the studens; however, the students must be willing to complete the work.

I agree with you. The Department of Education is requiring a lot of documentation for each student which is good, yet, it is time consuming when we are teaching around 100 students each day.

I have been misinformed on what constitutes an educational record. I have learned a lot so far.

Projects are given and started in class then on Wednesday of each week the students bring the project into the classroom to get help or talk about the project given.
In my Keyboarding/Computer Application class I usually give a small example of the concept/objective being taught that class. Then the students will be given a problem to do with help from classmates and instructor. This seems to work for me. Any suggestions.
I have great success when I give out structed outlines of the course the first day of class plus give an overview of what is expected in the class. I have organized lectures every class period for about 15 minutes than have an exercise for the students to do to reinforce the lecture.Sometimes we have discussion sessions led by me.

The best tool to have when assessing students is a grading rubrics. Students need to know what content is being graded and what expectations are being graded. Usually the students will perform to your objectives.

Since I teach mainly at night it is very difficult to plan and execute many field trips, therefore, I use guest speakers in the business world to come to class to give insight as to what to expect in the real business world. I try to have about three speakers during a quarter maybe more from insurance, banking, manufacturing, mail-order, legal, law-enforcement, retailing, distribution, sales, and customer service. We also set up an activity where we sell food items and the students must please their cliental. This really has been fun because we have several cliental who are asked to… >>>

I have found that if the students know what is expected during the lesson they will work hard to provide what is asked. Since I move from room to room sometimes I get tied up in my first class and get to my second class on time but not any sooner and I have not written an objective on the board or the PowerPoint isn't up, the students will ask what is the objective for today.
