About me

With 42 years of experience in the nursing profession, my journey has taken me through diverse clinical fields, healthcare leadership, and professional education.  I am a firm believer that when you "stop learning, you stop growing", and I have dedicated my career to staying curious and adaptable.  Currently, I find my greatest joy in mentoring the next generation of nurses, sharing the insights I've gained to help them navigate their own paths.  Outside of my professional life, I'm an avid reader, a home cook famous for my "Gumbo," a Louisiana staple food, who loves hosting friends, and a movie enthusiast who cherishes time watching favorites with my daughter.

Activity

I have used this concept before and really enjoyed it; it is a little difficult to get student engagement at first, because of the preparation work that is required of them. They do enjoy the activities and real-life situations they discuss, especially adult learners.

Providing education to students of all genders and sexual orientations is essential in keeping the campus safe. Also, encourage people to speak up if they find themselves in a conversation that may be inappropriate, or if the person does not realize they have committed a crime. Prior consent does not mean future consent. Very interesting section and a really good read.

Investigating sexual harassment or acts of violence in the academic setting is serious, and the impact can have a lifelong effect on the student. All incidents need to be documented with great care, and guidelines outlined by the school's Title IX coordinator or representatives should be followed carefully so that all parties involved will have an unbiased inquiry probe into the event. Also, I learned that other allegations or similar complaints can be considered, including outside conduct.

I have learned that even second-hand information regarding sexual misconduct must be reported. When students do not wish to reveal information, the investigation can still proceed, and we must inform the student. This will ensure that other students and employees are kept safe.

This section was clearly an eye-opener for me as a faculty member. Everyone has an obligation to report incidents witnessed or information overheard. I will make it a point to find out who the Title IX Coordinator is on campus. The Clery Act is important. Reporting statistics of prior acts to students can be important in decision-making regarding attending the school.  It is important that every student can receive an education free from sexual harassment of any kind, in a safe environment.
