I learned that building strong relationships between the financial aid office and other campus departments is key to promoting understanding and appreciation for the importance of Title IV compliance. When institutions embrace a team-based approach, they set themselves up for long-term success.

I have learned that there are many reasons a school may be selected for an audit or Federal Program Review.  Audits and reviews are designed to evaluate compliance and identify problems.  That’s why it’s helpful for staff to have a plan in place.

I have learned that it is essential to adhere to the laws and regulations governing Financial Aid. Even if incorrect guidance is provided by an inexperienced Department of Education representative, the institution remains responsible for any resulting errors.

I developed a clearer understanding of the penalties that institutions may incur for noncompliance with Federal Student Aid program regulations.  Maintaining current training and demonstrating strong attention to detail are essential for ensuring ongoing compliance.
