Lifelong learning looks different for each student, depending on their current and future goals.  Instructors can help foster productive skills in growing into goals by teaching organization, self-motivation, time management, and research skills.

It's crucial that students learn the soft skills in team work and presentations.  In teamwork, instructors should listen to and be aware of what's happening in groups.  If an argument arises, an instructor may want to step in and give reminders of how to positively conduct themselves, but allow students to in the end solve problem themselves.  Presentations may cause anxiety in many students, but thesse problems can be managed and overcome when the teacher encourages notetaking ahead of time, practice, and preparation.

Writing is important in all types of courses, across the curriculum.  Step by step directions need clarity and specific word choice.  In regards to professor/teacher assessment of writing - always acknowledge strengths before addressing two or three areas of improvement.

Soft skills can actually be fostered and taught.  Teachers and instructors can guide, but gradually put the responsibility of their students.  Brainstorming and collaborating are building blocks to beginning to instill soft skills in students.
