Vimlarani, Those principles are great. They are really steps in the learning process that helps "close the loop" in learning which includes assessment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
David, That is true! You have to teach in context of the course and/or the program. There may be a different vision of the progrom that could change the environment or context of the course. It can't be easy teaching the same principle, differently Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Vimlarani, True, there are similar skills that all students need to know ans some extra that online students need to possess. I actually think the skills you mentioned for online students would help f2f students. The knowledge of using the LMS is so important for online students. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Faryl, What a great strategy. Do you determine their needs by a self assessment? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Vimlarani, All of these strategies are great for online learning and teaching. I find students don't "listen" well online and it causes them issues later. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Faryl, I agree with you. Students need to be able to effectively evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses in context of a set of knowledge and/or skill. They are not perfect at everything despite all of the trophies! Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Vimlarani, What great points! Yes students don't develop the tools to evaluate themselves in their thinking. We do have to guide them in developing their standards. This can be done through ethics discussion. It is a great way to start. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Josh, It can. You want to tie the assessment to real world situations that is what makes it authentic. You can make opportunities for authentic assessment through discussion through application or analysis of a real world situation. Try using case studies through discussion. That might really be a great way to us the assessment. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Vimlarani, You have great ideas for using authentic assessment. What type of technology do you think students could use to record their presentations? Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
Josh, These are good strategies. I understand your feeling about objective evaluations. Good objectives questions are tough to write. I do think using both give students ample opportunities to demonstrate learning. Dr. Kelly Wilkinson
