Hi to all!

I am excited to learn more about cultural inclusion.

I am from Colombia but I have been living in USA from 2010.  I graduated as a dentist in 1998, and currently I am working as Instructor in a College of Dental Medicine at Roseman University South Jordan, Utah.

I want to contribute actively in the organization of the DEI in my work place and that is why I am taking this course to learn more and support the goals of the CODM in relation with DEI and belonging.

I want to continue my success in teaching and istructing students in a way they all feel they bleong and I care for them as an individuals.

I have 8 years in academia and I love to interact with the students.

Activity

Do you think that stablishing a multicultural center in educative institutions can help to close the gap between diversity and inclusion in education?

Knowing the students you can determinate what preferences of learnings they have as well what challenges in the learning process they start having and in that way we can not only establish different ways to teach but we can help students who are strugling  learning a concept for example.

Portfolios are a very useful tool that help not only the instructor but the learned to see the progress they are having through the instructional academic year.

Be aware that all classes have diversity in different contexts and establish teaching plans according to this principle. We cannot assume that because all students have the same goal, we can treat them all the same. As educators we must engage in an inter and not across way. Having knowledge of each student in relation to their culture, race, gender, religion, is crucial to include each individual in the learning process.

 

Until now I have learned being all human beings we have different characteristics, backgrounds and different preferences that make us unique beings and different from each person. For that reason, as educators we must focus on preparing our instruction not thinking of a certain group but of each student as a unique individual. For this it is important to get to know each student without going over the limits of respect.
