Finding ways to truly assess the skill level of students is challenging. Recently we have incorporated the use of several instructors to analyze student's skills ranging from class participation, soft skills, intrinsic motivation, cooperative skills, leadership qualities, etc. After several instructors rate the student, the results are compiled and then a one on one meeting is set up with the student and the program coordinator. This course confirmed what I knew about my classroom skills and management abilities. I too found the Harvard mini lectures informative and useful. There are so many variances to situations and examples that can occur in and out of the classroom that it would be difficult to include all of them. This course did a fairly good job of providing examples for a new instructor and some useful reminders for those of us who have been instructing for years.

Giving students compliments in front of other classmates helps to build their self actualization and also encourages their confidence to learn and participate in class.
Handling a confrontational student is very challenging. What are some suggestions for giving constructive criticism to the confrontational student with setting them off?
What are some suggestions for handling the students who feel they are "entitled" to the instructor's attention at any moment? Students seem to be changing over time and are demanding more and more.
Professional development for instructors is key to bringing knowledge and experience to the classroom. What are some suggestions on how to go about gaining this experience while an instructor is working full-time as an instructor? What about the Accounting or Communications field?
