I learned a new term " Netiquette" which means an acceptable way of communicating via the internet.
I learned that it is important to consider student -centered online learning space because it helps students construct knowledge rather than simply receive it from the teacher.
I learned that many online courses involve more activities such as reading and writing than traditional face-to-face course. So, reading and writing are essential for online learning environments.
I learned that as an instructor I should analyze my teaching style, strengths, and weaknesses, because it is important to acknowledge them, utilize them and improve them to become a better teacher in the online environment.
I have learned that as an educator I must intentionally design programs and courses to facilitate community development.
I learned that online student competencies include self-management, time management, and effective studying guide which could help students respond better to challenges.
I learned that helping profession approach involves physical, cognitive, emotional, and psychological growth. When students are provided with encouragement, and offering guidance it will help them achieve their learning and career goals.
I learned that the attention span of adults is 15 to 18 minutes. Which is good to know because I can structure my lectures with mini breaks for student to refresh their thinking and focus on topic.
I intend to create an environment that the students will have a sense of belonging, a sense of comfort about their ability to succeed in the course. I believe that such support system will help most students to continue progress toward their career goals.
I learned that by having a checklist you will feel comfortable that you have covered all of the critical items for that day.
