About me

Activity

I was surprised by the number of students with disabilities.  I was truly short-sighted when thinking about the word 'disabilities' as well.  I have been enlightened to 'paint with a broader brush' when teaching any classes.

I found this course to be a great source of information for everyone.  I tend to be so involved in the academic side of the student's education that I sometimes don't think about the student's experience in our school in its entirety.  I'm g;ad to be refreshed on these topics.

This course reminds me there is more to the adult learning process than simply memorizing facts. If they can't see how all the facts come together to formulate a plan for their patients then we are not giving them the tools they need to be successful.

I learned to look at my course assessments as a three-legged stool: before , during and after.  It is very helpful to view it this way because it gives me structure so I can remember to include each part of my course equally.  I have already come across so many issues that are discussed in this course as I teach synchronously and asynchronously within the same course.  Our faculty realized early on that we needed ways to curb possible cheating online and this course has good suggestions some of which we already implemented before.

I didn't learn many 'new' things as I've read about this before except the last part about the ability to make auditory comments on projects.  My students are required to make mP4 recordings for several projects in the classes I teach them.  I have a rubric but am going to pursue learning how to make 'auditory' comments in their recordings.

I also liked the idea of adding the question "What were you most confused about in this lesson?" to their weekly reflection questions.  This would help me identify areas to better clarify in future courses if I realized a lot… >>>

Totally agree. If there isn't mutual respect, there are distracting vibes throughout the whole course.

I realizie I need to become familiar with multiple social networking sites for all different types of learners.  I also need to be aware of technicle requirements and cost.

Time Management is key, and learning how to better balance between online instruction and personal life may help me rejuvenate my desire for teaching.

Even though not bending the rules may seem harsh to a student in need, an institution gains respect from the other students, faculty, community and perpsective employers.

I think it will take a while longer before everyone is on board with giving online learning the respect it deserves.  Naturally, it depends on the subject matter and institution backing the online learning, but for the most part, I find it equal to and sometimes harder than F2F classes.  In wither situation, building strong relationships of communication, trust & caring between the instructor (who is often seen as the institution) is key to a successful student experience and retention.
