Patty, I'm curious, what specifically would you like to improve with your communication skills? Dr. Jean Norris
Patty, this is a great point. Teamwork and good communication are essential in making a positive impact and ultimately helping our students succeed. Thanks for sharing this. Dr. Jean Norris
Scott, using students' names can be a powerful and meaningful tool. I like that you are also learning something about them so you can connect with them when you see them. This is just another way to build rapport and trust with your students. Great job. Dr. Jean Norris
Laura, thank you for sharing this. I love the engagement piece. You have it right - it is about the student. I'm curious, what other pieces of your delivery do you plan on working on? Dr. Jean Norris
Christal , Yes! It can be extremely helpful to identify priorities for focus...and in turn where one spends their time. Thanks so sharing Christal! Dr. Jean Norris
Thomas, Very interesting! It makes sense that your family influences have impacted your behaviors too. Great mix! Dr. Jean Norris
Donna, Excellent awareness again! Not everyone likes change...even if it is good. It's ok if things move slowly too as long as you continue forward. Keep up the great work! Dr. Jean Norris
Pamela, That's a great question. In my opinion, it is important that we don't judge others and make assumptions about their ability to be successful. What we CAN do however is make sure they meet the admissions criteria for the institution and do a thorough interview and counseling session to make sure they have examined all the elements of their decision. This may require training that is beyond the typical admissions interview but it's where I believe the profession needs to go. Thoughts? Dr. Jean Norris
Dan, These are great connection points! It shows you are listening. Excellent! Dr. Jean Norris
