About me

Activity

It can be a challenge to teach students without disabilities, but students with one create new challenges. Sometimes it's no big deal and I ifind many of them have developed coping skills that help them suceede in class. they may just require a little extra time. I usually try to avoid time constraints on all learnning activities, but they cannot always be avoided. We do havr IEP's here and we obide by what t, they usually either extra time in tets and labs or prerecorded test.

I have found teaching students to be critical thinkers and to fully undestand informatiion and systems to be the biggest challenge and am constantly trying new things. A good example is teaching how pressures try to equalize and how that knowledge is applied to industry and machinery. I have found that if you keep it simple, fun, and easy to assimulate, the better they understand it.

I have become a supporter and advocate for active learning and now make practically all my activities into exercises of sorts

We have beeb in transition to a hybrid learning since the start of covid and its been both fun and challenging. I still have mixed feelings about it because I do miss lectures which were more like conversations with my class. I never really just lectured and made them listen, it was more like a guded conversation so I guess active learning has always been a part of what I do. It does involve a lot more lab activities today and students seem to enjoy it.

I have found in the field in which I teach thta active learning to be far superior to lecturing. Lectures put students asleep, but if you have them doing a lab or other project, they obtain a more comprehensive understanding of what i being covered.

Setting and following up  onexpextations can be challenging to say the least, but it   is critical for student success. You must do your part and also ensure they keep up their side of the task.

Our online content is ever evolving, sometimes better, sometimes not so much, but we keep evolving. The students seeem to appreciate the efort and learning is improving. As students needs and industry demands change, we have to keep up or drop out and dropping out s not an option.I think we are heading in the right direction.

I have students work on group projects which requires them to problem solve through colaboration. This also makes them work on comunication skills and how they apply to real world problems.

Teaching on;ine courses are demanding of the student and we must prepare them to succeede by helping them create time lines and study schedules. They will need guidence and probably an ocassional nudge to keep them moving and make sure they are succeccful.

Managing an onlime course has a lot of challenges from all sources. It could be IT issues or student related. I know I have my share of strugles, but I am improving continually through practice and continual conversation swith other staff.
