Be prepared for the class. List books and covered information in the syllabus to give clear directions to the students. Make yourself a check list to refer to so that everything can be covered in the class.  

Modeling professional behavior at all times, not just in the classroom but also with those you meet along the way like in the hall. Being prepared for class, on time and early show respect to those you are teaching and that you are focused and prepared for the lessons to be taught. Also learning from other instructors and developing a style that is your own and effective for the age you are teaching.

knowing content with clear communications establishes trust with the student. Motivating them to be interested requires knowledge of the individual students. changing things up can help focus the students and keep them interested in the subject content. 

learning to keep the students engaged and and focused takes multiple teaching technique such as story telling or a well planned case study or environmental issue. Adult learners can focus for about 15 good minutes of learned knowledge before they need to change it up. Being well prepared will help retain students. 

I try to be positive early in the morning when the students are dragging into class. Many morning I am tired but I never let the students see that. I seek facts I do not know and I encourage the students to do the same.

Adult learners come on multiple age ranges. Each adult age range posed a challenge to the instructor. Adult learners may have more complaints about their learning environment  and a good instructor needs to see the world in their eyes without getting caught up in the world of complaints. Listening with empathy without loosing control of the adult learning environment.  

Establishing a good file system for easy access of students work will enable a more effective teaching style. Also identifying different types of learners such as disruptive students may be important to  keep the classroom a effective learning environment. It may be necessary to help more passive students to engage in group discussions. When situations arise and students need to be communicated with, a confident email is the professional choice since most learners have an email. Keep you communications private. Learning to identify different learning styles can help facilitate a good and safe learning environment.  

In general online courses open doors for asynchronous discussions which allow many students to  participation at the same time. Instructors post questions and students answer and also comment on what other students post. It allows for participants to engage multiple conversations at a time. However, much personal factors are missing in online discussions such as nonverbal ques, facial expressions and gestures. One must be careful to review netiquett prior to engaging in online discussions to maintain mutual respect of and for fellow students. distance learning will require the instructor to take a invested interest in the students, by actively seeking knowledge of students goals and interests, teachers can gain insight of the students during distant learning and visa versa , sharing little experiences you experience as an instructor can make you more human during the e learning process.
