Activity

In this section, I now have a better understanding of the different forms of learning disabilities.  With the information provided to accommodate, I will be able to adjust the classrooms to not only recognize when there is an issue but meet the needs of the students that are struggling.

In this section, I learned other ways to accommodate individuals with special needs.  I also learned the difference between a deaf person and a Deaf person.  I never knew there was a difference.  Now that I am aware of the various possibilities for accommodations, I will work on a list of feasible accommodations our organization can provide for the different disabilities so that we can make our classroom environment accessible to all.

Good evening, from this section, I learned that institutions have to wait for a student to come forward and provide documentation prior to any adjustments.  I also learned that adjustments should not interfere with the program curriculum.  With this new information, I plan on meeting with our program advisory board to dictate what we would consider as reasonable accommodations for students with special needs.  This way we are fair across the board.

From this class, I learned that people who struggle with learning disabilities are generally average or smarter, but just have difficulties processing or focusing.  In my class, I will try to find other avenues to help captivate my students' attention.

This session was very informative and I plan on sharing what I've learned with my team, as well as implement new strategies to have every team member connect more with our students.

When I come to the school every day, I make sure to greet everyone personally and touch bases with students that I know where having difficulties.  I find it does make a difference and it opens the line of communication for students to feel more comfortable in asking for advice.
