I absolutely found this section to be the most crucial to career coaching while doing it remotely as we are now. It might seem that the language of an email doesn't make or break a relationship, but it absollutley can. The commincative experience can only be a positive one when the student feels heard and understood. Having emotional connections while being apart is difficult, but still obtainable even though nonverbal cues are almost nonexistent. Realistic expectations might be one of the most important things to help the students understand in this career path. So many students start the program thinking that they will be the next big star or a Grammy award will be handed to them upon completion. It is vital to make sure all students have realistic expectations when it comes to obtaining a position in the Audio world and they might have to start from the bottom. Setting up a plan with students early on and helping them understand the process is vital for career coaching.

Being an effective listener really goes a long way when working with students and building relationships. A lot of the time, the student just wants to be heard and understood and being an active listener is a sure way to develop a trusting relationship. Knowing the right way to ask questions and give feedback and a huge part of effective communication when it comes to career coaching. The relationship and building the relationship is one of the most important parts of being an effective career coach. Being totally authentic and letting the student know you are there for them as an individual is a crucial piece of ensuring trust can be built. Having one on one meetings early on is a way to ensure that each student knows you are there for them on their own path and will support them with their goals. Continuing check ins and meetings throughout their education is a huge piece of maintaining that relationship.
