About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Theodore, Yes, it is. An instructor has to look at the content in segments and then build instructional delivery around the segments. This way you will be sharing content in different learning preference areas and more effectively engage students. I wish you continued teaching success as you impact the lives and futures of your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rebecca, Not only does this enhance the learning of your students it helps you to stay fresh in the content. I try to introduce a new strategy each time I teach a course so I am trying something new as well as better meeting the needs of my students. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
N., Reinforcement and review really helps students to retain the needed content. I teach evening classes and my students come to me tired. I have to use a variety of delivery methods to keep them engaged and focused on what we are covering if they are going to have learning success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Arthur, Last sentence says it all. We need to develop rapport with our students and identify how we can be supportive to them as they progress through the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Karen, Learning is made up of knowledge acquisition and much of this knowledge is acquired by making mistakes and then growing from them. You are providing a setting where they can learn and grow in a low risk supportive setting. This is a positive way to progress through one's program of study. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Charles, Good match for your students. They get to practice and use the technology while gaining the content to pass boards later on using the a format they prefer and are used to using. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Charles , This is a very effective strategy that will keep your students engaged. You are customizing your instructional delivery to meet their needs and this is the sign of an instructor that is striving for maximum ROI for each student. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lisa, I commend you for customizing effort. You are connecting the content to the focus of each student. This way they will see both value and relevance to what they are learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sandra, I know you are going appreciate the learning results you get from your students with this approach. I wish you much success with it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lisa, I teach long session classes as well so I can relate to your statement about the need to mix things up. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I have to have a lot of activities planned or I am going to lose my students. Students thrive on variety and change of pace and that is required for courses like those we teach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
