About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Benjamin, So true and so important to the future success of the course and how the students and instructor are going to work together. Digging out of a negative hole is no way to move a course forward. Plan and make the first impression and it is forward from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eric, I like the example you site in terms of how a lesson plan should work along with the goals and objectives. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Drew, So true. This way everyone knows the outcomes when they are accomplished. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Adrienne, So true. The more you can make a connection between the content and application the greater the engagement is going to be by the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Irina, Right you are and we instructors need to remember we are always on stage no matter the school setting. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, Well said and as you work in educational preparation like myself I am sure you are challenged at times when it comes to the lack of professionalism displayed by some faculty. These are the instructors that can't understand why the students don't respect them and have student management issues in their classes. Thanks for your good points. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, Passion for one's field goes a long way in "selling" the content that is being shared. Enthusiasm is catching so we need to spread it around. I tell my students that I am excited to be there and have the opportunity to share with them and I hope they will be excited about learning as well. If they aren't I am still going to do my best and see if I can get them engaged and excited as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Godwin, Right about differences. This is what makes teaching so much fun as well as so challenging. Diverse learners each and every day of teaching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, Good strategy. Grading rubrics really help to explain to students the reasons for their grades. Also, when a question is raised it is easy to target just where the points were lost rather than having to look all over the paper or project to respond. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, This is a great idea. I have used one for many years myself and it really helps me as I review it when starting a new course so I can remember what not to do and what was successful. Helps me to be a better instructor each time I teach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
