About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Dr. Kevin, Good strategy to offer variety. We all like variety in food, clothing, etc.. So why not incorporate it into our teaching. This sets the stage for success for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tony, Bringing in a graduate is a good idea because it shows the current students what the next step can be for them. They need to see examples of success so they will continue to work hard at achieving success in each of their classes. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, Students really like case studies, and stories about real life situations. They help to make real what they are learning. They get them excited about entering the field and having some of these same experiences. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Toni, Student rapport for me is one of the rewards of being a teacher. Helping students move toward their career goals and making a connection with them personally is powerful. We, as instructors are impacting lives for years to come so we need to be excited about our teaching and bring our best effort to class each day. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, This is sad to think of but for a number of my students true as well. During their time in my class they are at least safe and respected by someone. In addition, I am helping them make progress toward their career goals and for me this is an awesome responsibility. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Larry, Well said. By following your suggestions we are going to be able to engage the students and help them move forward in their career preparation. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Thank you for raising this very important concept about instructional challenges many instructors face. Hope we some very good input on this topic. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ladansa, Yes, we do for what I believe are two very good reasons. One, we better reach the different learning preferences of our students and two, it keeps us from falling into a rut and becoming boring teachers using the same routine over and over. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Richard, You do have a unique perspective by being both a student and teacher. By being in both worlds I am sure you are able to more accurately plan your instruction to meet the need of your students because as a student you see what you want to know in the classes you are taking and as an instructor you know how to deliver the needed content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tammy, I agree about sharing examples of cases and real world situations. These stories help the students to connect the content with their futures. The more this can be done the greater their motivation will be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
