About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Curtis, They do become more involved in the learning process when they know someone cares about them and their success. We are not only models for them but also cheerleaders at times. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bill, Sad but true. To have the opportunity to go to school and advance one's knowledge and career should not be wasted. For some students it is wasted because they lack the desire to want to change their lives. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Many students think no one understands them. By knowing that their instructor not only understands them but may have also had the same life experiences as they are having creates a connection that helps facilitate learning rapport. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Richard, Good variety in your method. You are keeping your students engaged using this format throughout the duration of each class meeting. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bob, You approach to learning is a comprehensive and balanced one. You are providing your students a number of different learning options through your approaches. This way you will be targeting the different learning preferences at different times throughout the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Arthur, Right you are. You are helping your students to "connect the dots" in terms of content and application. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Qadar, Good multiple learning opportunities. You are providing your students a number of different ways to become engaged in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dr. Kevin, You have to have a back up plan because as we all know failure is a part of technology. With a Plan B ready when something happens we can adjust and keep the class moving forward. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deanna, This is a very effective use of them for students that have the challenges you just listed. They can see how the parts of what they need to learn can be put together by following the organizer steps. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cecilia, Thank you for sharing a good description of how graphic organizers support learning. They help to "connect the dots" for a lot of students because they involve them in a tactile way. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
