About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Keri, This I believe is a very important part of teaching success. Having this knowledge helps you to make the connection needed between each student and his/her success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Asha, I do the same with great results. Having a few minutes to visit with the students and get a feel for their mood that day is really valuable in terms of how I am going to direct the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Monica, Very comprehensive definition of professionalism. You are showing your students not only technical content and knowledge but are modeling the career behavior needed for success as well. Great job! Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Donna, I think you are really going to enjoy the results you get with the use of expanded graphic organizers. As for additional resources I get a lot of information about graphic organizers from websites for elementary teachers. I have found them very helpful because I can take the idea for the graphic organizer and make it age appropriate and it works great with my college students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michele, You make a good point about how students need to find their place and role in a class. They need to see they are valued for their contributions and effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, They make it "real" for the students and this is so important to keep them engaged and focused on their career training. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, Great to hear. I wish you continued teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nevine, Having a caring instructor is very important in keeping students in school. They need to know that a person in authority (you) wants them to be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angela, I agree. Relating to students helps in the development of respect and rapport, both of which help to engage students in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eugene, This is a very good ongoing professional development plan. This way you can make constant improvement in your teaching while continuing to offer relevant content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
