About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Christopher, Good points on the value of a well prepared syllabus. It is a powerful learning document that needs to be shared and reviewed with the students so that the course starts off on the same page from the very beginning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Cecilia, This is always a tough sell because the administration does not want to spend money on things like classroom settings. You have a better chance of selling your needs to the administration if you tie the need directly to a learning deficiency. Also, for example using the dimming situation you mentioned, I would put a cost to the installation of a dimmer switch in the class. By having the cost available sometimes administrators will give the go ahead for the installation because the amount doesn't seem a lot. Then you can cost out the next thing you want. What… >>>

Mike, This is what good teaching is about. Helping them to make the connection between the real world where you worked and the content you are sharing with them. Your real life experiences also help them to see the value of what is being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
