About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Gabriel, Good suggestions. Early success is very important to build on bigger success later on in the course. Without early success they will be gone and we won't have the opportunity to help them grow in their learning development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, All good strategies to follow to keep the students focused on the content and engaged in making application of their newly acquired knowledge. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, These questions can serve as a discussion starter plus help in getting the students engaged in the content at a much higher level. So give them a try, I think you will like the results you get. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cecilia, Good way to support your instructional delivery. The handout will help them to stay on target during the PP and lecture phase of the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Audrey, Yes, they will and this is very important because they need to know the expectations of their field and you the instructor helps show them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, Great triad of key components for successful teaching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Annette, This is a very comfortable low key approach to getting a new class off to a good start. Knowing that their instructor has the knowledge, experience and expertise to help them move their careers forward is very important in establishing rapport with students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Melinda, Good point. I do this with my syllabus and it really helps me in focusing the attention of students on due dates, projects descriptions and other items that seem to challenge them in terms of deadlines and requirements. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Annette, Temperature seems like a little thing but it isn't as you mention. We need to look at our classrooms through the eyes of our students and this will help us to set the environment at a comfortable level for maximum learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kristi, Good point and one we need to remember as we do our own instructional planning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
