About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Rosalie, Yes, we do. We are showing students how to manage so they in turn can develop time and task management skills within their own careers. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, I agree with you about helping students to see the value of meeting deadlines with their assignments. This is the training and discipline they need for career success. Modeling these deadlines and being consistent in their enforcement helps to show the students where they need to go in their career development. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Donald, All good components of developing into a professional educator. We all need to keep these components in mind as we approach the classroom each time. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Shannon, Thank you for sharing this outcome of using graphic organizers. I have had the same results and am a big promoter of them to my students. They really help them to see the critical segments as well as the big picture. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, I like this approach a lot. You are letting them have fun with a common task but applying it to a technical skill area. The end result is knowledge acquisition and content retention. A win win for everyone. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jamie, Your last sentence says it all. It is one student at a time receiving the support that one student needs at a critical time. Your university is doing a good job of that through the services it offers students. Good that you get to teach in such a setting. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sara, How do you see these efforts improving your instructional abilities? Thanks. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Elaine, Thank you for these good comments about student comfort in a class. They need to feel accepted and respected for who they are and what they can contribute to the class. From there on out it is a building process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cory, Students can really relate to examples that instructors share about their own career growth. Students often forget they we are all former students ourselves, meaning we had to work to get where we are and that we had life challenges that could have derailed our efforts. Sharing these stories illustrates to them that we understand where they are coming from. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sara, How do you do this with your students? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
