About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Garry, This is such a great way to make the course content real. They are using what they are learning to solve real world problems. This is the preparation they are seeking by coming to school. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Garry, Good way to get the students settled into the course and feeling comfortable with how the course is going to be conducted. They can get their questions answered right up front and then prepare themselves for the course to come. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Christopher, This approach greatly enhances the relevance and application aspects of learning. This increases the ROI of the course for each student. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mark, Good point and one we need to remember. Why not start out positive and build from there rather than trying to dig out of a negative hole for the first few class sessions? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, Trust and respect are two essential components that need to be in every classroom. We instructors need to keep this in mind as we approach the classroom each time. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Garry, Yes, it is and this is why it is so important to have it well laid out and reviewed for the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, Good points about the value that can be derived from being able to recall specific content and/or procedures. This is why students go to school and they need to realize there is a purpose for teaching the content that is selected. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paul, Good list. I conclude the list with number four and that would be introspection. Stopping and reflecting on what you have observed and received input on will help you to shape your own style as you expand your expertise as an instructor. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mark, I like to do them as well even after all these years of teaching. I always come away with some valuable insight that I can apply to my own teaching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mauricio, Students like change of pace and variety in instructional delivery. The more you can do this the more they will be engaged. Sounds like you are doing such with your approach. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
