About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

George, This is a good way to approach your instructional development because you are showing that you are willing to invest the time and effort to be good at what you do. Trying new delivery formats and being creative in your content will enable you to reach your students on a much wider scale. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Students love examples and stories from the field. They help make the content come alive and relevant. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, This is such an important role to play. Being a model for your students and helping them to see the value of what you are teaching is what teaching should be about. With your attitude I know you are going to be able to motivate your students to what to be successful and move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sonia, Feedback like this can be extremely valuable as you define and refine how you are going to develop your instructional skills. Good point and one we need to remember as we do our instructional planning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aaron, They really are a great resource for students as they help them to see the parts of a concept as well as the whole. Graphic organizers are guides to follow to help students to expand their abilities as problem solvers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, This is a good connecting point for students. Knowing why they enrolled will enable you to customize your writing assignments and they get to express themselves in relation to the life experiences they have had. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carole, I am a big fan of role playing and case studies to get students moving about and talking with each other. Thank you for sharing your success with role playing as it helps to keep the students engaged and on topic while they are able to make application of the content that has just been covered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
SHIVA, This is a great way to help them learn using vision, sound and application to learn medical terminology. The more senses that can be used the higher the content retention rate is going to be and you are doing that with this approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carole, We "sell" ourselves and our course with our first impression. We need to work hard to make sure it is a good one if we expect our students to be excited about continuing the course and learning what we offering. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carole, They can't end up at a place that they didn't know they were suppose to go to. Clear goals and objectives show the path of learning they are to follow and what they will have once they have completed the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
