About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Carole, You have a well thought out professional development plan for yourself. I commend you on your efforts to expand your knowledge and expertise as an educator as well as a representative of your field. This is what all educators should be striving to do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhodri, You are right on with your practice comment. Like many things the more practice we have the better we get at it. So the more practice we have in analyzing a situation, proposing solutions and then implementing the solutions the better we will be at problem solving. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Henry, You make a key point about how to develop analytical skills. Students need lots of examples and experiences to define and refine their abilities to analyze and then reach a solution to a problem. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rosemary, Like your definition of reflective thinking. It illustrates how we need to learn from our experiences and continue to grow in our abilities as problem solvers. To do so will help us to become more valuable in our career areas. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Henry, You hit upon a key point that is missing in much of today's approach to problem solving. Discipline is a must in every field. Learning the basics and expanding expertise in the field helps individuals to become problem solvers that are desired in the workplace. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Henry, Critical thinking helps a person to look at other options and find alternative solutions. This is why it is important to think globally when approaching a problem to see how many different solutions there might be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aaron, Yes it is. If students do not see the value of the content then there will be no value to the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeanne, You have a two way street going with your students and I commend you for your effort. You are earning their respect while giving them respect. In addition you are sharing your curiosity with them and hopefully connecting with theirs. This is a win win for everyone when it happens. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harpreet, Well said and something we instructors need to strive to do. By developing rapport with our students we are creating a connection that reinforces the value we have for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sandra, Right you are. It is for sure if we are not excited about our field and being in class our students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
