About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Mary, Good strategies. These strategies offer variety of delivery and well as comprehensive content. Your own professional experiences and those of guest speakers help to reinforce what is being taught and this increases student satisfaction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cindi, Sounds like a good instructional format to follow. You are having success with this blended approach so your students are going to benefit from being in your class at a much higher rate of content retention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Very good point about respect. It needs to be two way and understood by both entities. This way respect can be a building block for more learning engagement to occur. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, I agree. The more the students know about the goals and objectives of the course the easier it is for them to get on the same page as you and move forward with the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, It is the only way to go. A negative first impression creates a big deep hole that is very difficult to dig out of. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Darnell, Rapport is such a valuable connection to students. By earning their respect and establishing rapport with them the groundwork is laid for a successful class to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, Your last sentence is the key. If we don't bring passion for our field nor excitement about teaching it then it is for sure the students won't have it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Good use of the syllabus. In addition, the syllabus gives value to the topics that will be covered and content shared. It is the road map (GPS todday) for the upcoming course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, Good point and one that is important if the class is to function as an effective learning community. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Yes, the students need to know right from the start what the expectations are. This way you can answer any questions they have and get the settled into the course and ready to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
