About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Mary, This is such good information to receive from students because you can build on the feedback in relation to course improvement. This will help to keep your course on track while engaging your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Terie, I think you will appreciate and value the feedback you get from this process. By having this feedback you can make adjustments at mid-course should they be necessary to keep your students on the learning pathway. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chad, You make a good point about the value of your own attitude in relation to the content. By working to make sure you are excited about the content you will gain acceptance as an instructor. Just as you said if the reverse is true then it may be time to stop being an instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, We need to keep on this search for the duration of our careers. This means we will be introducing new delivery formats as well as content all of our teaching careers and this will keep us interested and our students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jon (Jack), Two very important words, respect and rapport. We need to earn student respect while extending respect to them and then develop rapport with them so they see the value of the course and the content being shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Chad, This is such a vital part of teaching. Engaging all students in the class efforts, such as discussions and Q&A helps them feel accepted and encourages the growth of confidence based upon the content they are learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Well said because with the blend you list of enthusiasm, passion and relevancy you have a formula for student success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Yes, it is. Enthusiasm is catching and that is why we need to bring it each time the class meets if we expect our students to be engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jon (Jack), Right you are. We need to have passion for our field and enthusiasm about teaching it. When we do our students will be engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jon (Jack), Your last sentence says it all in relation to this topic. We need to work to make our students feel accepted so they can build confidence in their abilities and newly acquired knowledge. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
