About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Toni, This is an important part of the picture that is being developed for the students. They need to see the value of the environment in relation to the professional standards of the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, If students feel comfortable and supported in the classroom or lab they are more relaxed and able to focus on the instructor and the content being shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Damon, You make a very important point because if adult learners do not see the end results or feel that there is no purpose to what they are learning they will be gone in short order. They have life experiences that have taught them to look for relevance and we need to provide relevance in our instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Toni, The key to your instructional style is that you are sharing content that students understand and can apply. You are doing such with your approach and as a result you have an effective instructional style. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Toni, Good point about how we need to "sell" our content to our students. The more relevance and value they can see in what we are teaching the more engaged they are going to be. Plus it is a lot more fun to teach students that are excited about the course and if we are enthused then then our enthusiasm will spread. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonita, Planned professional development should be an ongoing part of our personal as well as professional growth. Good strategy. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, It is critical that everyone can hear and we instructors need to check to make sure that this is true for every student, no matter where that individual might be setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kevin, Colleagues are really helpful in areas like this. They can share their perspectives and then you can integrate their input into your own instructional style development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, Growth is constant and you are growing as a result of these types of educational opportunities. It is fun to learn and grow as a professional, our students shouldn't be the only ones that get to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Betina, Good explanation of how instructors can and should read students in respect to whether they are engaged or not. As you say by doing a reading like this you can then make adjustments so that they stay focused on the content that is being delivered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
