About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Katherine, This is an important way to establish the foundation for the course. This way you know they know what the expectations are and can build on them throughout the course. This reduces student frustration and anxiety because they have the expectations right in front of them and have gone over them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, Repetition of expectations is important because they reinforce the content you are sharing with your students and what you want them to take away from the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I like the way you have your expectations laid and and how you demonstrate them. This way your students know you are serious about them meeting your expectations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonita, This is such an important thing to students especially older students. It shows them that you respect them and that you are willing to invest in learning their names because of the value they bring to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, This is very true. We need to establish a supportive professional atmosphere right from the beginning and then build on it throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Yes, you do in terms of a good first impression because a lot of the success of the course is based upon how you set the stage at the first meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawn, This is a fun ice breaker to do because you learn so much about the students as well as being a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, Glad you had this resource to follow because it would have been tough to come up with a well prepared syllabus on your own as a beginning instructor. This syllabus gave you confidence and direction so you could focus on getting the course off to a good start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erin, Yes it will. This way the questions that are asked will be more content focused rather than logistical. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Katherine, Right you are. It is the document that will help the students move through the course while understanding the requirements, policies and expectations that they will be following and completing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
