About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Peter, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. Your comments about making sure that this is done are right on the mark. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Norman, Good point because this is what student centered instruction is about. The more you can do this the higher the level of student engagement there will be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, Like the way you approach your instructional planning and delivery. This comprehensive approach sets the stage for a very successful course and a high level of student engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, Good way to not only inform the students but also to creative excitement about the upcoming class sessions. Showing them examples and talking about what they are going to do during the first class meeting helps to get them "hooked" for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peter, A positive first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the class is built. This is why it is so important to have a good first class session planned for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tierra, The more you can replicate the work place environment the better. This way the transition from classroom/lab to employment will be much easier and more productive for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, Students seek safe and comfortable in terms of their learning environment. It is our responsibility to provide such so they can concentrate on the content of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peter, Without clear goals and objectives the course is going to go off the tracks and a wreck will occur in terms of student satisfaction and outcomes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, All good hints for instructors to follow as they expand their instructional knowledge, expertise and delivery. The more you know the more options you will have from which to draw. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peter, Right you are for so many reasons. Be returning projects and quizzes promptly you are showing the students where they are in the course so they can maintain their direction or redirect themselves if needed. Also, this projects a professional image for the students in how to be organized. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
