About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joy, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm about teaching are two essential elements needed for teaching success. It is for sure if we are not excited our students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Soft skills are the center of career development and success so your comment is a good one. We need to help our students to develop their skills in this area while they are in our courses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Terry, Right you are about remaining current in our field. To not do this is to cheat our students of the most current content and best practices of our field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daneen, Like your steps because they let your students explore and create options within their solutions. This lets them see that there are different ways to solve a problem based upon the resources and limitations presented in each setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daneen, Seems like the saying "Ready, aim fire." has been change to "Ready, fire, aim." by many students as the result of the access they have to resources today. Reflective thinking is such a critical part of problem solving because it gives time to integrate common sense into the situation. Keep up the good work you are doing in helping your students to be reflective in their thinking processes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daneen, Self discipline is slipping away for many students. They did not have to have it during their high school years so the thought of bearing down and really working hard to acquire knowledge and skills while in a college class is a foreign concept to many of them. We need to show them the connection between self discipline and career success while they are in our courses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, The more of the senses that can be involved in the learning process the better. In your field the connection between tactile and cognitive is powerful and you are tapping into that connection with your approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, This is a good point because students need to be able to see the ROI on their time and financial investment in being in college. We need to remind them of such often in our courses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
David, Good plan to follow. This is such valuable information in relation to staying student centered in your planning and delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Students love to hear stories from the field. Stories reinforce the content being shared as well as increases the value of the course to them in relation to their career goals. So keep sharing those students and letting your students see how their career field operates. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
