About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Carol, What a vast background of stories and experiences you can share with your students. These stories help to make the content of your courses come alive and increases the value of the effort being put forth by the students. Keep sharing these stories and laughs with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kristy, Great way to illustrate components and how they fit together. Gives a mental picture from which the students can operate. Thanks for sharing your success with using this method with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doug, Once students have the opportunity to make application of what they have learned they start to develop the needed skills while also developing an appreciation for what they have been taught. This is what career growth is about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doug, One of the benefits of being an instructor. We get to continue to be students throughout our lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doug, This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom and lab over and over again. We get to see the progress our students are making toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claudia, This is such a good way to reinforce at the end of clinic the knowledge and skills the students have acquired. This way they are taking away a summary of what has been accomplished so they can store it in their working memory. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, Good strategy to follow. You are teaching and then reinforcing through application and relevance. This increases as you have mention the retention of content rate for your students and they are able to have more take aways as a result. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
KIMBERLY, Nice way of blending your instruction so you reach the different learning preferences of your students. The results are that you have students with higher levels of satisfaction with the course and have moved closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tracy, This is a tough situation. Hopefully other participants have experienced something like this and can provide some guidance. This is something in which I have had not experience. Our students have to complete one or the other to receive their certification and a job so they complete the course format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Right you are about the sequence of development that should and does occur in classes if all of the essential elements are provided. The feeling of accomplishment is great when students move through the Hierarchy and feel confident in their growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
