About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Charles, I use a lot of guest speakers in my classes as well because they increase the motivation levels of my students. They help to make real what is being studied and that gets the students excited about what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, I agree. Demonstrations show both application and relevancy to the content that has just be covered. Helps to make a connection between the classroom and the real world. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Suzelle, I like this teaching method because through the sharing of an actual event you are reinforcing the value of the content and helping students to make application of it. This increases the ROI for the student as they move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, By making the point about the impact that a student has on a patient you are reinforcing their need to have a professional approach and commitment to being in the field. This understanding is critical if they are going to have a successful career in the dental field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, Thank you for sharing this evolution of your approach to the first class meeting. You make a number of excellent points that will be helpful to new instructors that are just starting to develop a feel for how they want to run their classes. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Not to have the needed equipment and tools form which the students can learn proper procedures and develop their skills is unfair to the students. Our schools need to remember this as they set up programs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, A lab without good equipment or a classroom that is uncomfortable puts the instructor in a tough spot. Your point is a good one about how we need to be aware of how the environment is going to influence the learning of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carrette, All of the items you listed in terms of how to develop you instructional style are right on point. Good way to increase your knowledge and skills as an instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, Staying current is such an important part of being an instructor of merit. Instructors need to make professional development an ongoing goal for themselves as they see to impart the latest and most accurate content to their students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Zach, You are fortunate to have good support for your professional development efforts. You have a good plan going to help you become an even more effective instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
