About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Becky, This is a good way to get a baseline on your students. Then you can take the results and shape your instructional delivery to have more impact on their learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Becky, Good point about a positive first impression. This is the foundation upon which professional development will be built by the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alfonso, Good comments about the value of having clear goals and objectives as well as good planning. This sets the stage for learning success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gyula, Without clear goals and objectives the course can go off in many different directions which means that the students won't receive the education they need. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alfonso, This is so sad because students have an expectation of their instructor and that is to be a role model for them. When it doesn't occur the students are left to wonder if they should listen to anything the instructor says. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Suzanne, You make a key point when you mention the contract aspect of the syllabus. It is not only a contract but a road map for the upcoming course so the students will be informed as well as know when they have reached the goals that have been set forth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Suzanne, Great way to continue your professional development. Using all the resources you have to expand your expertise will result in you make a greater impact on the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
ROBIN, Thank you for sharing these stories with us. I love hearing these stories because they are what keeps up coming back to the classroom or lab year after year. You are making a difference in their lives and their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, You are bringing the human factor into the classroom for our students. They often need that listening ear and support to keep them coming to class and staying in their program. Your support is making an impact on their future. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
ROBIN, Students like variety and change of pace in their learning. You are offering them both in your approach and that increases their motivation in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
