About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joanna, I understand your comments completely because I find myself in the same situation ever so often. This session I am teaching six sections of the same course. To stay fresh and remember what class I have told what I am adding new activities and assignments. This way part of the course is new to me as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Good list of instructional strategies that can be used to share content. I am a big fan of note cards myself. A old fashioned form of real basic technology but still very effective in today's learning environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doreen, Well said. We are who we are and we need to build on our strengths as we interact with our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, Good approach. Sometimes students forget they have chosen to attend their college and have chosen their field of study and have chosen this class to help them move closer to their career goals. So by making such choices they need to mentally see the value of what is being taught in relation to the tuition they are paying so they can have a future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nicole, This approach is so valuable to your students in that you are showing them what they will encounter in the workplace. Having these experiences will help them as they make the transition from being students to professionals in their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Becky, Right you are. I am always amazed at the lives some of my students have outside of school and yet they are there every time the class meets and ready to learn. I admire these students because of their dedication to making their lives better as they create a future for themselves and their family. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brandon, All good ideas for preparing and motivating students for success in your class. If they are dedicated to success then it can be theirs if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alfonso, Your field is a gold mine of stories that can be shared with students. These stories capture their attention and reinforce the value of the content being shared. So keep sharing and your students will be engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Suzanne, This is what engaged learning is about. They are see both the relevancy and application of what they are being taught with this method. That increases the value of the course for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Etibar, Yes, it is and this is why it is so important to get everything just right on day one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
