About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Dorothy, Little things quickly add up to become big things when it comes to reinforcing students. Adult students are in reality, or at least I think so nothing more than taller children. They like to receive feedback and be complimented for good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Reza, Yes, this is so important because the student are very anxious about the class and what it takes to pass it. So the more information you can share about projects, tests and grading the more they will be at ease. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, This is the human side of being an instructor and it needs to start during the first class meeting. Your points are good ones about how we need to show respect for our students which in turn will lead to the development of rapport with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, The more connection you can make between the classroom and the work world the better. By doing so you are increasing the ROI of the course for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Reza, What are some strategies you use to help them see how the course will help them reach their goals? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmen, This is my style as well and it is one that keeps the students engaged. I wish you continued teaching success with this approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, Good point and a point that cannot be forgotten as we start a new class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, This is the human side of teaching that we all need to bring to class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, Last sentence says it all. Lay it all out! Students need to see what the rules, policies and expectations of the course are and they need to see them in a clear and understandable presentation format. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, Right you are. We need to see our labs and classrooms through the eyes of our students. When we do we will make sure the learning environment is comfortable and supportive for our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
