About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Biftu, Keep up the variety you are offering your students. You are on the right track with all of these efforts. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I not only have the six hours to fill but my students are worn out from having worked all day. Sometimes the class looks like a circus but I am able to keep their interest and get the content across. Needless to say at the end of the evening I am worn out but elated when I see that they "got it" for that class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Monir, Yes it does. It gets everyone off on the same step as the new course unfolds. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shawn, For sure. Without a plan it is tough to come up with a first step due well all of the rest of the steps that will be needed to solve the current problem. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cindy, Reflective thinking is the process of looking back and then looking forward so you can benefit from the past while creating a solution for the future. Problem solving development is an ongoing process based upon learning and growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Cindy, Sadly for many students self discipline is not a part of their development. The more we can help them to develop self discipline the greater service we will have provided them as learning leaders. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lorraine, Like how you are using sequential knowledge development in your problem solving efforts. Your students get to see and use different elements from different courses to solve problems. This is how they are going to function in the real world so they need to learn how to do it while students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cindy, This is one of the essential elements of problem solving development. If no questions are asked then no knowledge will be acquired. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Your last sentence really captures the essence of why we need to be life long learners. If we are to teach we have to constantly be expanding our knowledge base as well as our expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dorothy, Good point about how an instructor should approach the classroom. Passion for one's field is a must. Teaching about that field with enthusiasm is essential and the combination is a formula for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
