About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Megan, The goals and objectives are the rails upon which the courses glides. By making sure they are clear and concise the students will see what they are going to learn and then know when they have covered the content within the goals and objectives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, Great point and one I support a lot. Being organized gives confidence to the instructor while demonstrating to students that their instructor is a professional. To do anything less is to short change the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmen, Glad to hear this because we all need to take advantage of professional development opportunities when we can. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Megan, You have a good educational leader to provide you with suggestions for engaging students. These strategies for right on in terms of helping students to become involved in the course and see the value of what is being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
MICHAEL, What are some successful ways you have developed to provide these examples? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, All good ways to get your students engaged. The connection between the course content and the real world is a powerful one. The more you are able to do that the better because that increases the ROI for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Relevancy and application needs to be a part of our instructional process. The more they can see these two the more value they will associate with course content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, I use guest speakers a lot in my classes as well. You are right because by sharing their experiences they help to make real the content that is being studied in the course. My students as I am sure yours are are always pumped after one of our guest speakers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, You make a key point with your comment about it being new to the students. It is easy to forget this point after we have taught a course several times. We need to keep our passion for the content high and bring enthusiasm for teaching each time we step into the classroom or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Through refocusing we can expand our knowledge of how to be even more effective with our instruction. It needs to be an ongoing process throughout our teaching career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
