About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Dina, The first class meeting is the foundation upon which future sessions will be built. It is critical that the first meeting be a well prepared and focused one that gets everyone settled into the course and feeling comfortable. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
May-Lin, This is so important because it gets everyone started on the same page plus it outlines the course expectations. The syllabus is going to be their guide for the next few weeks so it needs to be clear and concise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Manuel, This is a must. Students cannot be expected to perform if they do not have current and supporting materials, equipment and resources. It is unfair to them and their career preparation if the school does not provide them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Manuel, I use different games in my classes for review as well and my students really like them. As you mention they are fun for them to do but are very effective in the review process. A good learning time but very beneficial as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
May-Lin, Good combination of instructional deliveries that will help students to use their different learning preferences as they acquire the needed knowledge. Like the variety that you are offering them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Salina, Three great words to use as the foundation of your teaching style. With enthusiasm, passion and interest you have key touch points for getting students engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vicki, Sounds like you are in a great position as the learning leader of your students. You have an understanding and knowledge about them as people and are prepared to share your content in an organized and engaging manner. Keep up the good work! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Loren, This is how good teaching is reinforced and new activities introduced to the course. The more feedback from students the better because this way you can make any needed adjustments and keep the learning going forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Donna, Well said. Instructors need to have passion for their field and enthusiasm for teaching it. This is a winning combination for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, Yes, they do. Everyone needs to have a clear understanding of what the goals are and what they objectives are that will help them to achieve the goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
