About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Maria, The more variety you can offer as well as change of pace the better. Sounds like you have a very good plan for providing different learning opportunities for your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, This is the formula for teaching and learning success. I know I like to be around people that have a passion for their field and are excited about sharing information about it with others. Enthusiasm is catching and that is a good thing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
EDWARD, They have a very strong influence on the course and what is being taught. Sharing stories like this shows relevancy and application in terms of the content. They help with motivation as well because they show the students what it is going to be like once they are in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
EDWARD, Good point about needing to stop and reflect on how far the class has come. Then we need to remind our students that they have made major strides in their career development as a result of what they have learned thus far in the course. Doing this should recharge both instructor and students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, Trust is the foundation for earning respect. We need to always set the tone of honesty in the class so trust can be developed. You make such an important and good point in relation our role as the learning leader. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, This is one of those hard to measure variables because we as instructors may never know how much influence we have on keeping one of our students in school. By displaying our caring and support we are showing them how much we care about them and their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rose, Yes it is a challenge. We instructors need to creative in our teaching approach so we can keep them engaged during these theory sharing times. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Myrna, It does say a lot. It is for sure that if we are not excited about being in the class our students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rose, Thank you for your comments about older students. I really appreciate having them in class as they have so many life experiences that we can connect to when we cover different topics. They are goal oriented and are willing to put forth the effort needed to be successful in the class. Always learn so much from them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dina, I like introductions as well because they are a fun time for everyone plus they help the students to get settled into the course. I am always amazed at how diverse my students are and they have experiences that are so interesting. When the introductions are completed I am excited about having the opportunity to learn more from them as I share my knowledge and expertise with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
