About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Allison, Like your approach and like the message you are sending to your students at the first class meeting. This sets the stage for a positive and supportive course to come. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brenda, This is such an important part of starting a new class. Time spent on introductions and ice breakers is very valuable in setting the tone for the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lora, Yes it is and this is why it needs to be clear and concise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allison, Good way to lay out the class and make it ready for the students. A positive first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, The more you can do this the better. This way the students will see what the work environment is going to for them as they complete their training. This way their transition into the work setting will be easier and more accurate so they won't be surprised or overwhelmed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lacey, The more you can make the classroom relate to the subject being taught there the better. Posters and such help to make the classroom come alive and capture the interest of the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elida, I agree with you. This is what "sells" the course and adds value to the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, It is great that you were able to receive professional development from these individuals. Sounds like you are enjoying your teaching and feel confident with your skills. This is a major part of what teaching is about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lacey, You are on the right track with this attitude and desire to help your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allison, You have a great attitude to make all of these goals come alive for your students. Having passions for your field as you do goes a long way in helping your students to see the value of what you are teaching. Then having enthusiasm for teaching about the subject will keep them engaged. I wish you much success as you impact the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
