About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sheila, I like the use of small learning groups as a teaching tool. By sharing with each other while working toward common goals the students develop skills needed for success in the workplace. Human relations are an essential part of career success so anything we can do to help growth in this area the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Larry, Like the example you use. This is a graphic way for the students to see in their minds how the current is flowing and what slows it down or stops it. Then they can go from there with their trouble shooting and successful problem solving. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, Each of the elements of learning you listed are a part of the scaffold sequence that students need to move up on. Each step completes another competency or skill set that the students need to career success. By having application and relevancy built into the process then the retention factor increases greatly in terms of knowledge and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lacey, Passion and enthusiasm are two essential elements needed for teaching success. Both send a powerful message to students about the value that is placed on the content being shared. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lacey, Support groups like this are very important as they help the students to connect and work with others. They are going to have to be able to do this in the workplace so they need to learn how to do it while in class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lacey, Students need to personalize the content being offered. Your point is a good one in that the more we can help them relate to the content the greater the content retention there will be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, This is a powerful approach to learning because it reflect on what the students will be doing when they are out in the workplace. The more connections like this that can be made the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Allison, Great to hear the value you are getting from this module. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elida, Yes it is and that is why it needs to be clear and concise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bonnie, Yes, it is. Time will be lost in trying to reestablish a positive setting. With planning and effort the class can get off to a good start and the build from there to the benefit of everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
