About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lora, Being a role model like this is what teaching should be about. Helping students to see the value of the content being offered, sharing examples that can be applied and then conducting one's self as a professional gives a complete picture to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ciara, Being a role model outside of class is almost as important as the role in the classroom. Walking the walk is a must whatever the setting because students are always looking to those in authority and we cannot disappoint them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, This is a great way to bring about course improvement. The more input we have the more accurately we can be in making changes that will make the course even better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, I call these "take-a-ways". This gives you an idea of how the learning process went for the class and the students get to share what they have learned which helps to build their confidence. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Yes it does. Also with trust and understanding a foundation is build for respect and rapport on the part of the students as well as the instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Good point because knowing their learning leader cares about them as individuals goes a long way in keeping them engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Adult learners need a lot of reinforcement when they are starting a new course. Reinforcement helps to build their self confidence and this moves them closer to course success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jane, Good way to offer variety while keeping your students engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Yes the do because they help to keep the focus of the students with the presentation of the content and then an activity. This gets them to integrate both knowledge and application in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jane, Right you are. This is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
