About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, Very true. We need to see our classroom and or lab through the eyes of our students. This way we can make sure we create a learning environment that is supportive to their learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Edwin, This is a good way to connect the classroom to the real world. This will ease their transition from being students to being professionals. The more relevance and application they can see the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Emeline, Both can contribute a lot to your professional development. I would suggest that you think about observing other instructors as well. I find that I always come away from an observation with ideas about how to improve my own instructional delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Emeline, I think you have a very good grasp of what it takes to be a professional educator as evidenced by this list. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, This is such an important part of career success. Students need to realize that good written and oral communication is needed if they are going to be perceived as professionals in their field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, They need to be reminded of this at times during a course because it is easy for them to be bogged down in coursework and forget how much they have actually learned. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joe, Well said. This is an important part of our professional growth and skill development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lauren, Helping your students to see how each component contributes to a positive outcome is essential in their training. You are helping them to see how they need to consider each step and ingredient as being a part of a positive outcome when the recipe is completed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, I think you have a very solid position in relation to the value of the web based training modules. They may work for some general background information but it seems to be that humans learn best when they get to make immediate use of newly acquired knowledge. So they hear and see a demonstration on a automotive task and then do it. By doing they are involving their senses and cognitive processes so the retention of the knowledge and the expansion of their skills occurs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Where and how do you select course content. Where does the content for the course outlines come from? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
