As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Matthew, How do you use these components to share your expectations? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Matthew, Not sure what this means. How do you go about preparing your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, The key is to do just what you are doing and that is be open to "reading" your students and then making adjustments in your instructional delivery. Each class is different so by being open you will be able to reach each class and increase student engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, You make a good point about the value of a well prepared syllabus and I can really appreciate your comment about how many students do not see the value of the syllabus and what it contains. These are the same students that will be asking questions about what is going on and when projects are due and when told claim they weren't told. Accountability for having received and read the syllabus is a good way to reduce these types of issues. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erica, Well said and something instructors really need to reflect on as they start a new class. A positive first impression is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, It is essential to have such a document for your students. This way questions are reduced because the syllabus explains how the course is going to operate and what the expectations are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erica, This is a key point if everyone in the class is going to move in the same direction. Visiting these goals and objectives on a regular basis helps the students to keep a vision in their minds of where they and the class is headed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stanley, This is a great way to lay the course out for the students. They know the competencies they need to acquire and so their educational journey is set for them. This way they can focus on doing all of the course requirements as they already know what the outcomes are going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stanley, Listening and observing colleagues is a great way to expand your knowledge and expertise as an educator. Keep listening and keep improving. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, Like the list of professional actions that you proposed in terms of being a model for your students. These are the items that help them to see their learning leader preforming in a leadership manner so they can feel comfortable modeling their own behavior after their instructor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
