While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joe, Thank you for your good comments about how to help students reset their brains when they start to wear down in a course. With some effort the energy can be regained and the enthusiasm for the course will start to rise and the students will be able to get to the end of the course excited about what they have been learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Willie, I like the way you lay out your course expectations. This way the students can clearly see what the expectations are and what they are going to need to do in order to be successful in the course. This reduces confusion and gets them to focus on the specifics of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Willie, Good way to start off a new course. This lets you know why they are enrolled and it has then start thinking about why they are in the course as well. This type of reflection early on in the course helps students to see the value they are going to get from being in such a course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Emeline, Stories like this are important to share as they make the connection for students to the application of content being taught. They see relevancy via these stories and this increases their motivation levels. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Emeline, Good way to be clear in what the course expectations are and how the course is going to operate. The Q&A session lets them find out about how they will need to preform in order to be successful in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, Key point all instructors need to remember as they start a new course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anthony, What are the ways you share the course goals and objectives with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary Ellen, With the earning of respect the foundation is laid for the development of rapport. It is at this point teaching really starts to be fun because you have students that are engaged and focused on the course content and want to develop the skills needed for success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LARRY, This is an important part of "reading" a class of students so you will know how and where to provide support. This also helps with the development of rapport with them so they will be engaged for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
