About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Pearlmarie, This feedback helps you to make any adjustments you need to to keep the students on track in the course. This is how instructional improvement is made and growth experienced. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jarred, Good point because we all encounter such students at one time or another. We need to enjoy those students that want to be there and provide the best instruction we can. The other students can then come along or just stall out but at least we have fulfilled our professional obligation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gabriel, The key to successful student engagement is adapting instruction to meet the individual needs of the students. This is why one instructional method does not work for all students. An instructor must be able to modify the content or delivery to meet these needs while keeping the course on track and moving forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jarred, This is an important lesson for them to learn. You are helping them to see that they do have a chance to shape their future future if they are willing to invest the time and effort needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pearlmarie, Like these ideas for starting out a new class and getting the students familiar with each other. These are fun activities that will help set a positive tone for the students' new learning community. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, This is such a great way to engage the students and show them the relevance as well as the application of the content being taught. I think these stories increase the value of the content and gives students insight into how they will use this information in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, They really help to show students how the parts of the different study areas come together to complete a concept, activity or skill area. As a result they are able to stay engaged during the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rachel, Thank you for these comments. This is something that is a constant battle with many of my colleagues as well. We are models to and for our students and thus we need to dress, act and conduct ourselves as role models of our field and our profession. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rebecca, Well said because this is how students develop into effective problem solvers. They need to develop the discipline it takes to collect, analyze and then utilize the information that will help them solve problems. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, Passion for one's field goes a long way in getting the attention of students. Combine that with enthusiasm for teaching about it and the formula is there for exciting classes and focused students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
