About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kim, Good ideas for professional development. There is always room to grow skills when it comes to teaching so we need to have ongoing plan whereby we continually expand our instructional knowledge and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mariann, You make a good point because it is easy to overlook a quit student and before you know it the course is about over. Your idea of making a note to yourself to make sure to include everyone is a strategy that will help to make sure that everyone is heard from and contributes to the class. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Diana, This is a very good point because life does happen. By considering the impact an event may have or is having on a student you can provide support and encouragement and help them work through this tough time. Knowing you care about them as individuals and their future goes a long way in helping them to stay in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, Yes it is. It is what keeps students coming back and working hard to be successful in class even when life outside of school may be bearing down heavy on them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carmen, What kind of activities do you do to get your students ready for the tests? Thanks for sharing with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Good strategy because you are helping the student but in a way that does not put them in jeopardy in the class or with fellow students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Angela, Thanks for the resource. I know it will be of help to other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, This is a very important factor in keeping students enrolled in school. Knowing they are part of a supportive learning community goes a long way in keeping them engaged and focused on their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kodee, Students like it when their instructors being passion and enthusiasm to the classroom or lab. You are doing such and getting the reward of engaged students. Keep up this good effort! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Camille, Like this approach because you are moving your students from being passive to active learners. They are becoming engaged and as you mention "thinking" which is sometimes thought of as being foreign in college classrooms. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
