About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Robert, Thank you for this statement as I find it true in my own teaching. I am amazed each time I start a new class with the diversity of experiences that my students bring to class and I get to share in learning about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, I think you are right on target with this approach as it incorporates a number of very good teaching/learning practices. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, This is a very good way because you are bringing to your students the latest best practices in your field along with real life examples of how these efforts result in better patient care. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, This is how most instructors approach their classrooms and labs as well. I currently have several classes with 25-50 students and I use the lecture/small group format. In my class with 4 students we sit in circle and do more discussing and mutual problem solving. To answer your question, we instructors do adapt to the number of students and the type of course we are teaching to make sure we are customizing our instruction to maximize the learning of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ellya, What some ways that you do this? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carol, You have a very comprehensive picture of how an instructor should approach the classroom. This is how planning and delivery should be done and when done this way everyone will benefit. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, This is something that I have experienced with my older students so I make note taking a part of my introduction. I also use guided notes to help them capture the key points and not be overwhelmed with trying to write everything that is said down. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marlene, Good way to demonstrate the value of the content being shared with your students. They get to hear and see what are the key concepts and then internalize them for their use later. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Antonio, Right you are about this important point. By doing so everyone is on the same page in terms of expectations and with you providing an expectations sheet with your syllabus the students have it in writing. This will reduce misunderstandings and confusion. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marlene, Passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching it helps to engage students and get them excited about what you are teaching. You are doing both with your approach. Keep spreading the cheer about how you love what you are doing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
