About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Michael, Thanks for sharing how you involve your students in the learning process. Effective online instruction is important to keep students engaged. I really like your philosophy. It truly is a gift that can be shared. Gary
Hi Amanda, Good approach to bringing diverse learning opportunities to the classroom by offering content in different formats. This helps the students to use their learning preferences in more effective ways. Gary
Hi Patricia, What you are doing with your policies is helping the students to develop discipline in their lives. As we, who have been in the work world, know that we have to have a set of "soft skills" if we are going to be successful. Our students need to have opportunities to acquire these skills while going through our courses. Gary
Hi Alan, Thank you for your comments about how to ramp back up and help move the students forward in their learning when they start to wear down. That's why the deep breath and hanging on is so important because the other half of the course is going to occur whether we the instructors or students are excited or not. So let's make it a exciting second half. Gary
Hi Alison, Way to go in creating an environment for enhanced learning for adult learners. By offering variety in your instructional delivery you will continue to keep your students excited and engaged. Gary
Hi Kelly, All very good strategies for continuing professional development. Thanks for sharing them with us. Gary
Hi Laura, This is good advice for all instructors. Use the resources you have available. By having open communication with the Dean of Students and Academic Coordinator you know you have backup when needed to help with a student problem. Gary
Hi Lori, This is what "connecting the dots" for students is all about. You are taking a subject area, history and making it come alive for them. This is what application and relevancy is all about. Great job. Gary
Hi Amanda, Good point. This is what keeps everyone's education moving forward. Also as you mentioned this helps the students to feel accepted in the class. Gary
Hi Thomas, Good approach to recognizing the contribution the student is making by asking a question and then interacting with on the answer. This really helps them to feel included in the learning process. Gary
